Local Breweries and Wineries Raise a Glass to Fight Hunger

17 local businesses are looking to make a difference in the community this summer by fighting hunger.

Pouring Generosity is a two month event spanning July and August that sees participating wineries and breweries donate a portion of proceeds to Feeding Umpqua, a food program from the United Community Action Network.

Feeding Umpqua partners with the Umpqua Valley Winegrowers Association (UVWA) to bring this goal to life.

This year, the team decided to up the ante with the fundraising by linking in more businesses into the event.

“Last year it was just wineries, this year we’re including breweries as well and last year we raised $7,000 dollars to support Feeding Umpqua to help families and people in the area without enough food to eat,” said UVWA Executive Director Ali Rodgers.

Those businesses include:

  • Abacela Winery
  • Backside Brewing Co.
  • Bradley Vineyards
  • Brandborg Vineyard and Winery
  • Draper Brewing
  • Freed Estate Winery
  • Giradet Vineyards
  • JosephJane Winery
  • Knostman Family Winery
  • Lookingglass Brewery
  • Melrose Vineyards
  • North 40 Beer Company
  • River’s Edge Winery
  • The Wine Destination
  • Trella Vineyards
  • Triple Oak Vineyard
  • Two Shy Brewing

Rodgers says this year’s goal is to fundraise $15,000 to fight food insecurity in Douglas County; A number that doubles what was raised last year.

Knostman Family Winery participates in the fundraiser year after year to help bring food into the community.

Making a difference for the community is something the Winery takes to heart as they hope to raise even more this year,

“It’s just great giving back, that’s all I can really say. We have people that come in, they purchase because they want to support the community and we love giving back to the community,” said Winery Owner Chuck Knostman.

Knostman Family Winery is donating $1 for every bottle of wine purchased during the event.

The full fundraiser runs from July 1-August 31.
