Freed Estate Winery
About the Winery
At Freed Estate Winery, we strive to bring the aloha spirit to Oregon’s Umpqua Valley. Founded in 2000 by Mike and Pam Freed, what began as a vineyard supplying grapes grew into a family-run winery and tasting room, built from the bones of a reclaimed barn. The space reflects the Freeds’ Hawaii roots, featuring local artwork and a welcoming atmosphere that celebrates both island spirit and Oregon craftsmanship.
Visitors to our tasting room are invited to relax and enjoy an immersive wine experience. With both indoor and outdoor seating, guests can take in vineyard views while enjoying guided tastings of our estate wines. Families are welcome, and children love watching our resident sheep and goats. Dogs are also invited to join the fun in our outdoor tasting areas. Our goal is to offer a space where everyone feels at home, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Umpqua Valley and the friendly aloha spirit that defines Freed Estate Winery.
Our vineyard spans 12 hand tended acres, producing Syrah, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Viognier. We prioritize quality over quantity, embracing low-yield farming and bio-dynamic principles like herbicide-free cultivation, sheep grazing, and minimal soil disturbance. Our red wines are minimally filtered to preserve their rich, natural character, allowing the true essence of the grape to shine through. While some of our wine is made on-site, we also partner with local winemakers who share our dedication to quality.
